Case study!!!

Writing to me has gotten a lot easier because of all of the exercises we do in class. I think that the wiki word project helped me a lot as well to get a good understanding of how many definitions one word can have. When I use a word I can now understand how it fits in the sentence and even some other words I can use in its place. I liked doing to Halloween story because it makes me think and be very creative. I really like when I challenge my imagination. Writing has changed for me since I started English 105. I have became more creative, aware of structure, and really defining my words.

Writing

When I write now I can think of new words and meaning to put into my writing. After seeing the journal in class it really inspired me to make one of my own. I now start to write in my journal and add many things to add a collage about what I just wrote. Writing has opened so many opportunities for me and lets me express my opinion and feelings without anyone judging me or telling me how feel and think. Writing in the journal has helped relieve so much stress as well. When I started the wiki page it was so hard to start because I could not find a word that I could really explain. Then I wrote in my journal and found the word hot used a lot in the journal. Then I looked it up and found so many definitions and I knew this word was perfect. Thanks to my journal I found my word and I already had so many meanings to the word already.

Week 6: Writing

After the exercises we do in class I feel a lot better when I write a paper. I understand how to make a reader interested and write a good lead. I also know know why it is important to keep your readers attention so that they keep reading and don't just push your writing aside.

When I started to write my lead I did five different ones so that I could decide which one I liked better or which one's I could combine to get the best lead. The lead to me is the most important part other than the title. The title is what really gets the readers attention especially if people judge a book by its cover.

When I was writing my paper I tried to add personification, dialogue, drama, and a few other writing techniques. I tried to keep the writers attention through out the entire paper. I felt like it got really hard at times because I ran out of ideas or I couldn't think of how to word some of the personification. What really helped me was writing down some ideas and working through them.

This paper was a great idea and the things we did in class for the paper really helped me. I hope that my paper reflex what we learned and the reader never gets bored reading my paper.

week 5:opinion Drinking age!

Why is it that we have to have a drinking age? Does it really stop people underage from drinking? The legal drinking age is 21 and it is illegal for people of the age of 21 or older to buy alcohol for minors. Is this really stoping minors from drinking?

Party's are going to happen no matter the age, these days there are kids as little as the age of 12 drinking. The more you tell people they can't do something or have something, the more they want it. I think personally there should be no legal drinking age, however I do still thinkit should be illegal to drink and drive. I am 18 and I have been to many parties were even though I may be the youngest one there I was also way more mature than most of the people of drinking age. No matter the age some people are immature and others are very mature. Why even have a drinking age? Is it going to help anything? To me it is just a way for the government to get more money because they know that there is always going to be underage drinking.

Drinking and driving is wrong in so many levels but even today minors are getting caught and thats all the government wants you to hear about. They don't tell us how many people of drinking age get caught and how many parties they have to bust because of the immaturity and noise levels, which is how most minors get caught. Parting is just a way to have fun and be able to kick back and enjoy. So why should there be a drinking age? No matter how many times people get caught they are going to keep doing it over and over.

Week 4: Writing

Writing to me can come easy, but then there are those times where I cant think of anything to write at all. When I write I think of a million things I want to say, but when it comes to putting it on paper I really draw a blank. In class when we took our VARK test it really helped me understand what kind of learner I am. I can use the way I learn and apply it to my paper when writing it and organizing the ideas for the paper.

In class I learned I was a visual learner and knowing that really helped me to understand how I should go about writing my paper. I like using graphs and outlines to set up my paper so I know I can be organized as I go on with my paper. I like to keep my ideas and thoughts all together and I really think that using an outline helps me to do so. Although I am a visual learner I also found other ways that really helped me collect all my thoughts.

The play-doh exercise really helped me to think about how I think when I start to write a paper. When I made the sun out of bright yellow play-doh I understood I did the sun because of the color of the play-doh. originally I tried to make a teddy bear but that did not turn out so well. However, it made me realize I relate things together in order to make something out of them or to out them together.

As the class goes on I feel like I learn more and more about myself as a writer. As I learn more about myself I also learn better ways to write my paper and how to organize my ideas.

Week 3: How free is free

In Philosophy we were talking about free will and the extents to how free we really are. One situation that was brought up was we are able to make our own decisions, but if we make the wrong one we get a punishment or discipline. If we are free then shouldn't we be able to make either decision with out getting in trouble for it. In class we are told to raise our hand in order to speak or if we have a question, but with free will shouldn't we be able to speak when ever we want. By law we have to go to school until your are 16, again if we were free then we should be able to choose whether we go to school or not at any age.
With our free will also comes rules and laws that you are forced to obey. Whether you are playing a sport, going to school, driving somewhere, or just making renovations to your house you have to obey the rules and follow the laws set in place for every action you do. In sports there are rules you have to follow otherwise you and your team suffer a penalty. In class you have rules you have to follow in the class rooms and even just walking around the campus. While driving you have to wear a seat belt, drive on a certain side of the road, and follow the speed limits. To change a look to your house, you must get a permit to do so otherwise the city will be giving you tickets like crazy.
Laws are put in place to protect us and to protect others. However, we can not say we are free because we have limits and laws we must follow every single day. So when you wake up in the morning and head to school look around at all the laws you have to follow and ask yourself, how free are we.

week 2: how I feel when I write

Writing to me can be so much fun! It really gets me to use my mind and express my opinions and ideas. Writing is something I can do anytime because I feel like I can speak about the topic personally and not have to write what someone else thinks and feels, I get to use my own beliefs and expressions when writing. Writing about something I can relate to or have a strong passion for makes it even better because I can write about so much more an get into the topic itself. Now writing about something boring and dull gets harder to use my ideas because I think so little about the topic its hard to be personal about the topic when there is nothing that I can connect to.
Now when I get an assignment and the teacher says to write about a certain thing it takes time to organize my thoughts to match the topic, but once I get started I feel like I could write all day about it unless it's a subject about history or something that will put me to sleep. Professional writer's say when you get stuck and can not write anymore take a break and it will come to you, however, I feel like if you write out some thoughts on paper or just take a minute to breath then it will come and I feel like I can continue right away with out taking that break from my thoughts. Your thoughts can be so powerful and sporadic when they come so it really helps to put them in writing so you can come at ease and focus so you can present them all in your paper with out making runons and putting all the thoughts in the wrong places.

Letter of introduction

Dear Stephanie,

Crazy, bubbly, blonde, loving, motivated, and active would be a few of the words people would use to describe me. I was born on July 27, 1991 to my parents Timothy and Catherine Behm. Even though sometimes I don’t want to claim them, I have to, their names are on my birth certificate. Another name on the certificate is mine, my parents named me Kristi Marie Behm. I have two younger sisters Katie who is a sophomore in high school and Kari who is in eighth grade. However, I am a freshman at Illinois Central College with a huge dream of majoring in pre-med.

Growing up I was very spoiled by my parents and they opened many doors of opportunities for me. They put me through a catholic school for grade school then sent me to Richwoods High School where I played softball and danced for their dance team. I also met my boyfriend of two and a half years who also attends ICC. During my time at Richwoods I also found a new love of McDonalds restaurant. I think I used to eat at McDonalds every morning and every evening for dinner, I guess you just can't beat their dollar menu or the fifteen pounds you gain from it. Entering college was a huge change for me, it meant I actually had to grow up and learn how to do things on my own. College has been very fun though in the week I have been here and I have already met so many new people and some great teachers especially my English 105 teacher, she should get an award for best teacher or greatest style. Other than that school has just started and I am ready for so many more opportunities to come my way.

My personality is very bubbly, I can be shy at times but once I get started there is no stopping me. I get along with most people and after about the first five minutes you will be able to tell why I was born blonde. I have played many sports including soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, and dance. My most favored sport was softball which I have played for about 11 years. I have a huge heart that keeps me motivated to sticking with all my dreams and ideas. I have a very big dream of becoming a pediatrician.

Being a pediatrician is something I have dreamed about ever since I was in first aid/CPR my junior year at school after they told me shopping was not a profession. The thought of me being able to save lives is absolutely amazing to me. I especially love kids too so this works out to be a perfect for a profession along with the knowledge I have of being stuck in a pediatrician's office for hours and hours at a time this year due to an appendectomy I had done. Other future goals would be to start a family of my own and eventually, after I win the lottery, to own the Chicago Cubs. My whole family is full of cubs fans except my crazy and goofy aunt who I don’t claim at times but still love.

Recently, I lost my grandmother (also known as Mamma) to pancreatic cancer and learned a whole new outlook on life. I took life for granite before and now I cherish every moment of it and try to make life easier on others and help out in any way I can. I go to the gym almost every other day to stay in shape and keep my heart going. Losing her was so hard but it really opened my eyes to how much one can really accomplish in a life time and how little time we have to do it. I want a tattoo of the letter L-O-V-E because I believe with every decision you make and every day you wake up its because of love.

This is my time line and my dreams which have taken eighteen years to accomplish but yet still have so many more years and memories to add to it. I hope now you can see how crazy, bubbly, blonde, loving, motivated, and active are the words that people would use to describe me.

Sincerely,

Kristi Behm
